Amongst the five School Boards in the greater Winnipeg area, all education institutions are closed for visits, with registration being conducted electronically. Public daycares are also closed. Registrations are done via phone or email only. Any family member/child entering the daycare is screened via a COVID-19 questionaire.

Therefore, members should carefully consider: whether they could feasibly delay their HHT/DIT for a couple of weeks, how many dependents they really need to bring with them, and whether they have any medical conditions that may put them at higher risk of complications from COVID-19, and make their travel plans accordingly.

Preschools and elementary schools (K-6) to re-open 11 May, 2020, with exception of those in the Montreal area, however, attendence is not compulsory. Secondary schools (7-11) will remain closed until September 2020 but will continue Distance Learning activities. Daycares will also reopen as of 11 May, 2020. CEGEP and universities are closed.

School registration is done by the school board. All relevant information is on each school board website. CEGEP registration is online.

Daycare registration can be completed online through “La Place 0-5”.

Is the local real estate market operating?

Yes. Real estate marketing is operating. There is a large military community and the market is quieter/slower than usual and this is attributed to the HHT restriction.

Are home showings being conducted in person?

Yes. The only house showings that are occurring are ones where the seller is allowing a home showing, and at times, with restrictions. It is ultimately up to the seller if they want anyone in their house. Otherwise showing are completed virtually. Clients are sent a questionnaire to complete prior to attending a viewing. The Real estate agent is the only one that touches anything in the house and carries cleaning equipment.

Is there a restriction on the number of persons who can participate in a home showing? If so, how many persons can visit at one time?

Yes. Only one client (husband and wife but not kids and others) at a time. Prospective buyers must complete a questionnaire in the day prior to the visit to the home and must be approved in advance.

Yes. Lawyers have setup their offices to create a signing room and have protocols in place to ensure that clients can go to their lawyer and sign docs. As well, lawyers have been approved recently to e-sign docs. Meeting are by appointment.

Yes. The preference for Banks is that clients do not go into a branch. They are open and providing service via phone and email. Mortgage brokers are very responsive in the area and are used to working from home and using electronic communication methods.

Yes. The Real Estate market is operating. Agents and brokers are taking all necessary precautions to ensure the safety of the sellers and prospective buyers.

Home showing are being conducted. The process starts with a Virtual tour of the property and if the buyer is interested they can then arrange a viewing. The parameters of the viewing are determined by the Seller as per their zone of comfort. In all instances, the agents ensure all visiting buyers and sellers sanitize appropriately and confirm that they have not tested positive for COVID-19. They then complete a waiver holding the agent and the seller free from harm in the event COVID-19 is contracted as a result of the in-home visit.
